International IFBB event update – Kiwi’s in Action!

Congratulations to our three elite athletes who competed with distinction in the amateur section at the 2010 IFBB Arnold Classic in Ohio, USA over the past few days:

Michelle Laurin (Heggie) – 3rd place (14 competitors), Physique (Middleweight)
Karen Montague – 5th place (12 competitors), Figure (Class F)
Kristy Thomson – top 10 in Figure (Class D) with approx 25 competitors .. the largest Figure class at the event.

A fantastic and well-deserved result for all three ladies … well done!

Also, the NZFBB would like to congratulate two of our IFBB Professional competitors (Mike Kingsnorth and Grant Pieterse) and wish them all the very best for their participation in the IFBB Australian Grand Prix Pro Bodybuilding event in Melbourne next Saturday (March 13). Both Mike and Grant have competed at this event previously - in 2008 (Mike) and 2009 (Grant).


WANTED – New NZFBB Judges!!

The NZFBB is looking to add new Judges to our current panel of officials. A training seminar will be held to allow these people to attend and qualify to judge NZFBB events in 2010 and beyond. 2010 NZFBB Event Calendar

Here are the agreed dates for our 2010 event calendar. Please note that while every effort has been made to confirm these dates and locations, changes are always possible due to any unforeseen circumstance that may arise.

June 19 Northland Excalibur Champs, Whangarei
August 28 North Island Champs, Masterton Town Hall, Masterton
September 11 South Island Champs, Christchurch
September 18 Wellington Champs, Victoria University, Wellington
October 2 Waikato Muscle Tournament, Founders Theatre, Hamilton
October 9 NZ National Champs, Auckland
October 16 Coromandel Classic, Thames

The event on March 20 is a full regional qualifier for the 2010 NZ Nationals with all regular NZFBB categories available. This event will also be a qualifier for NZ competitors to be selected for the following international events:

April 17/18Australasian Bodybuilding Champs, Sydney
April 24South Pacific Bodybuilding Champs, Auckland


CALLING ALL FIGURE & BIKINI COMPETITORS!!


2010 NZ IFBB Professional & Amateur Grand Prix - Auckland, March 20

In conjunction with an IFBB Pro Figure and Pro Bikini event, an Amateur event will be held with prize money for all male and female Overall Winners PLUS a Pro card awarded to the Overall Figure and Overall Bikini class winners – who will be eligible to make their Pro debut immediately by competing in their respective Pro event line-up later the same day! So, for all you ladies with ambitions to be an IFBB Professional competitor, here is the ideal opportunity to realise your dream! More details about this exciting event will follow in January.

The NZFBB would like to congratulate the following competitors who have represented New Zealand at various IFBB international events in the past few weeks:

Raechelle Chase - Pro Figure, 10th place

IFBB Men’s World Champs (Qatar, Nov 4-7):
Daniel Hibbs – 14th place, Under 70kg
Supry Sos – unplaced, Under 75kg

IFBB Juniors & Masters World Champs (Poland, Nov 13-16):
Brian McFarlane – 12th place, Masters Men 40+

2009 NZFBB NZ Nationals Champ – Auckland, October 10

Congratulations to all 114 competitors who took to the stage on Saturday! Results are now available on our Results & Photos page.

We would like to sincerely thank all our sponsors, competitors, event organizers, officials and staff who made this another very successful year for the NZFBB. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible on stage in one or more of our events next year!


NZFBB Nationals Qualification Rule Change – effective from September 22, 2009

A motion “to allow figure and body shape competitors to switch between both categories if they prefer to do so at the nationals when they qualify from either category”, has now been passed by the committee majority vote and will take effect immediately.

CONGRATULATIONS to Moe El Moussawi – 10th place at the 2009 IFBB Mr Olympia!!

Our President and top IFBB Professional, Moe Elmoussawi, has secured his 2nd consecutive top-10 finish at the Mr Olympia. In one of the strongest and most competitive line-up in many years, Moe’s performance is a fantastic achievement – beating several IFBB Professsional event winners like Dennis Wolf, Dennis James and Silvio Samuel. We look forward to welcoming Moe back to NZ very soon and seeing him present his World class physique at the NZFBB NZ Nationals on October 10.

IFBB Classic Men’s Class

As from August 2009, there is a new set of height/weight ratios for the Classic Men’s Class. Any competitor who qualified under the old set of ratios will still qualify under these new ratios. Click here for full details of the Classic Men’s Class and these new ratios.

IFBB Pro Update – August 25, 2009

Congratulations to two of our IFBB Pro athletes who have recently competed in the USA. Mike Debenham made his IFBB Pro debut at the Europa Supershow and the Tampa Bay Pro events. Jacqui Jarrett, in her 2nd year on the IFBB Pro circuit, also competed at the Europa Supershow, as well as the Jacksonville Pro event.

The 2009 NZFBB AGM was held on Sunday, July 26 and here is the new look NZFBB Executive:

National and International Event Funding

The NZFBB will be providing funding to athletes selected by the judging panel from various regional competitions to assist with travel and accommodation to the 2009 Nationals.

The NZFBB will also be looking to offer funding to athletes selected by the judging panel to represent New Zealand at International events including the Mens, Womens, Classic Men, Juniors and Masters Worlds and the 2010 Australasian Champs.
